Gerding Edlen’s first foray into San Francisco offered an intriguing challenge to anchor a new location poised between neighborhoods, created at the intersection of several long-established areas and providing a new perspective from which to experience the City. The name Etta is a diminutive, meaning a smaller version of something, to emphasize the small environmental footprint of the building’s big spaces. The logo is an understated play on the interlocking glass cube architecture of the movie theater that occupied the location prior to the project.
